Tyrese Maxey has agreed to a max contract extension with the Philadelphia 76ers. The new deal is expected to be worth around $204 million over five years, marking a significant pay raise for the All-Star guard. Last season, Maxey earned approximately $4.3 million in the final year of his rookie contract. ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski was the first to report the news, confirming that the contract is fully guaranteed with no options.

Maxey’s performance in the 2023-24 season earned him the title of the NBA’s Most Improved Player. With averages of 25.9 points, 6.2 assists, and 3.7 rebounds, the 23-year-old guard has shown great potential for growth. Sixers president of basketball operations Daryl Morey praised Maxey’s ability to exceed expectations each season, expressing confidence in his continued development.

Head coach Nick Nurse believes Maxey has room to improve defensively, citing his physical abilities and strength as valuable assets. Assistant coach Rico Hines sees Maxey as a unique player with the potential to become a Hall of Famer. Both coaches praise Maxey’s energy and personality, emphasizing his positive impact on the team.

The Sixers have recently made other moves in free agency, including signing Eric Gordon and re-signing Andre Drummond. Morey’s star-hunting strategy has culminated in successful acquisitions for the team, positioning them for a competitive season ahead. With Maxey locked in for the future, the Sixers look to build on their success and compete at the highest level.
