McLaughlin-Levrone sets new world record in 400m hurdles

Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone made history on Sunday by breaking the women’s 400 meters hurdles world record for the fifth time. Her incredible time of 50.65s at the US Olympic trials in Eugene, Oregon surpassed her previous record of 50.68 set two years ago at the same track in Hayward Field. This record-breaking performance secured her a spot at the upcoming Olympics in Paris, where she will defend her title.

After her amazing run, the 24-year-old Olympic champion was in utter shock. She expressed her amazement and disbelief at her quick time, stating she was baffled by her own performance. In the race, Anna Cockrell came in second with a time of 52.64s, followed by Jasmine Jones in third with a time of 52.77s.

McLaughlin-Levrone dominated the race from the start, taking the lead right out of the blocks and smoothly navigating every hurdle. She displayed exceptional technique and skill as she maintained her lead throughout the race. As she rounded the final turn, she was in a league of her own, leaving her competitors behind.

Crossing the finish line with nearly a two-second lead, McLaughlin-Levrone received enthusiastic applause from the crowd. Despite having run the event only once this season before the trials, she showed no signs of rustiness. Her semi-final performance earlier in the day had already set a world-leading time, proving her exceptional talent and form.

As the only woman to have ever run faster than 51 seconds in the 400 meters hurdles, McLaughlin-Levrone is now setting her sights on an even greater achievement – becoming the first woman to win back-to-back Olympic titles in the event. With her record-breaking performances and incredible skill, she is a force to be reckoned with on the track.
