McPherson College in Kansas has received $2.1 million in funding to enhance health in rural areas. The funding, announced by Senator Jerry Moran, is directed towards creating an educational center for Rural & Community Health Science. This funding will support the development of a new health science program at the college, focusing on clinical, administrative, behavioral, and community health.

This marks the first time that McPherson College has received federal funds through congressionally directed spending. Senator Moran praised the college for its efforts to train healthcare providers to serve rural communities and expressed confidence in the impact this funding will have on the college, its students, and rural Kansas.

McPherson College President Michael Schneider also expressed gratitude for the $2.1 million in federal funding, noting that it will help strengthen rural health in Kansas. The program will allow more graduates to enter rural communities as healthcare professionals, meeting the increasing demand for healthcare providers in these areas.

The funding will be used to upgrade parts of the college’s science hall, including improvements to laboratories and technology. Additionally, a portion of the funding will go towards professional development opportunities. This investment in McPherson College’s health science program is expected to have a lasting impact on rural communities in Kansas.
