Giana Pedevillano, a recent graduate of Southern Connecticut State University and a native of Meriden, has joined Newtown’s team dedicated to preventing food borne illnesses. Starting in health promotion at SCSU, Pedevillano eventually shifted her focus to environmental and public health as she progressed in her program. She developed a passion for ensuring a clean, healthy, and happy environment for all.

Now equipped with a master’s degree in public health, Pedevillano is working on redirecting personal care businesses like salons and spas to be inspected through Newtown’s Health District starting September 1. She is also in the process of obtaining FDA credentials for food service, as well as training in soil and septic inspections.

Reflecting on her journey, Pedevillano shared her realization of the various professions available in the field of public health and how she found fulfillment in helping communities rather than individual patients. She is currently shadowing her mentors at the Health District, learning from their expertise and guidance to become the best young professional she can be.

For now, Pedevillano is focused on honing her skills and knowledge under the mentorship of experienced professionals in the field. She expressed gratitude for the support and guidance she has received in her role as Newtown’s newest health inspector.
