During the recent control room meeting at Palazzo Chigi, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni praised the work of the government, relevant institutions, and implementing bodies in implementing the new Italian Plan. The Prime Minister highlighted the release of strategic resources that have fueled Italy’s economic growth, making it the leader in Europe for achieving objectives and financial progress.

Meloni pointed to recent GDP and employment data showing growth in the South exceeding the national average, emphasizing the need for policies to bridge territorial gaps in competitiveness and productivity. Italy has also successfully submitted the sixth payment request for the Plan, showcasing its commitment to utilizing European resources effectively.

Despite initial doubts and negative predictions regarding the success of the Pnrr under the current government, the Prime Minister expressed confidence in Italy’s ability to achieve ambitious goals and fulfill the entire Plan. The recent control room decisions will enable Italy to request the sixth installment totaling 8.5 billion euros, with plans to activate the seventh installment’s verification and reporting activities soon.

Minister for EU Affairs Raffaele Fitto highlighted the progress in investments and reforms aligned with the Plan’s forecasts, setting the stage for the payment of the sixth installment and the preparation for the seventh installment worth 18.2 billion euros. The significant increase in public works investments, particularly in the South, signals the transition to Phase 2 of the Pnrr, focusing on shaping Italy’s future through concrete investments.
