Adapt Integrated Health Care is acknowledging Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month on June 12, 2024, at 3:20 a.m. This month is dedicated to bringing attention to the mental health challenges that men face. It aims to reduce stigma, promote open conversations, and emphasize the importance of mental well-being for men of all ages.
According to a release from Adapt, mental health is a crucial component of overall well-being but is often neglected in men due to societal expectations and stigma. Men are often expected to be strong, stoic, and self-reliant, leading to a tendency to underreport mental health issues and a reluctance to seek help. Men are statistically less likely than women to seek assistance for depression, anxiety, and other mental health issues, which can have serious consequences.
Dr. Greg Brigham, the Chief Executive Officer of Adapt and a Board-Certified Clinical Psychologist, highlighted the challenges men face in seeking mental health support. He noted that many men view asking for help as a sign of weakness, resulting in lower rates of accessing care and prolonged suffering. Brigham emphasized that mental health support and treatment can improve overall health and happiness and build resilience.
Dr. Brigham encouraged everyone to have conversations with the men in their lives about health during Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month. To learn more about how to get involved in this awareness month or to schedule an appointment, visit https://www.healthline.com/ or www.adaptoregon.org.
