Serbia has a chance to celebrate two champions in one night. Novak Djokovic competed against Carlos Alcaraz in the semifinals of the French Open and won in four sets. He will face Casper Ruud in the final on Sunday. Meanwhile, Nikola Jokic and his team, the Denver Nuggets, beat the Miami Heat 108-95 in Game 4 of the NBA Finals, putting them in a strong position to potentially win the championship in Game 5 on Friday.
After the game, Jokic received a text message from Djokovic, who recently overtook Rafael Nadal in men’s majors with 23 wins. The two are fellow Serbians and Jokic expressed excitement for Djokovic’s chance to win the French Open.
In an interview before the NBA Finals began, Djokovic commended Jokic’s skills and called him “the best basketball player in the world.” Fellow Serbian and Atlanta Hawks guard Bogdan Bogdanovic also made it to Game 4 of the NBA Finals.
While Serbia may be proud of these athletes, Jokic has not yet committed to playing in the FIBA World Cup later in the summer. Regardless, Serbia has a strong team that could potentially win medals.
