Maya, also known as the Mexican archer, had a very close chance to win the compound women’s final at the season opener in Shanghai. She qualified on top, made her way through the brackets, and even built a two-point lead over Jyothi Surekha Vennam. But unfortunately, she succumbed to the pressure and shot an eight and then a worse nine in the tiebreak against her Indian opponent. This loss marks the second major event in less than a year that Maya has lost to an Indian archer.

Despite the disappointing loss in Shanghai, Maya remained optimistic about her performance in the upcoming events. She mentioned that the quick turnaround from one competition to another left her still trying to find her shot but expressed her confidence that she would improve over the next few days. The event in Yecheon is the second of only three stages in the shortened season, making it crucial for competitors to perform well.

With the points she earned in Shanghai, Maya is in a good position to qualify for her second Hyundai Archery World Cup Final. She has fond memories of competing in her home country, Mexico, and hopes to have her family’s support in the upcoming event. Although finishing fourth in the past World Cup Final held in Tlaxcala, Maya aims to clinch her first international victory at the Yecheon Jinho International Archery Field. She sees this event as a potential turning point in her career and is determined to make the most of the opportunity.
