The expected bidding of six shirts worn by Lionel Messi during Argentina’s 2022 World Cup win is set to be a valuable collection of sports memorabilia. The shirt Messi wore during the first half of the final in Qatar is included in the collection. The shirts are expected to fetch over $10 million at auction, which would make it the most valuable collection of sports memorabilia.
Auction house Sotheby’s has revealed that a portion of the proceeds from the sale will be donated to the UNICAS Project, supported by the Sant Joan de Déu (SJD) Barcelona Children’s Hospital and the Leo Messi Foundation in order to help children suffering from rare diseases. However, the exact amount to be donated has not been disclosed by Sotheby’s.
Bidding for the shirts will be open from Nov. 30 to Dec. 14, coinciding with a public exhibition to showcase the collection. The sale of these shirts is expected to break records, with the collection being the most valuable sports memorabilia at auction if it fetches over $10 million.
The current record for the highest price paid for a game-worn sports memorabilia item is held by Michael Jordan’s jersey from the opening game of the 1998 NBA Final, which fetched $10.1 million last year. Acquire Licensing Rights.
