Tim Robberts, Meta Platforms (NASDAQ:META), is planning to offer businesses free artificial intelligence chatbots on WhatsApp, according to a report in the Wall Street Journal on Thursday. WhatsApp, owned by Meta, is an instant messaging and voice-over-IP service. These chatbots are part of Meta’s strategy to transform messaging apps into profitable business units. The purpose of these chatbots is to assist businesses in automatically responding to customers. In addition, Meta intends to enable businesses to utilize AI for creating advertisements.

At Meta’s Conversations conference in Sao Paulo, Brazil, on Thursday, marketers and sales teams were invited to discuss how businesses can leverage messaging apps, especially WhatsApp, to enhance customer engagement, streamline operations, and boost revenue. The European marketing company Charles, which utilizes the WhatsApp Business platform, foresees the expansion of commerce features in Europe, an increase in automation and AI-powered chatbots, improved analytics and insights, and more interactive functionality. India and Brazil already allow customers to make payments for products and services through WhatsApp, and Europe is expected to be the next market for this feature.
