Metsä Board, a part of Metsä Group, has announced that they will be investing in the renovation of the folding carton machine located in Simpele as part of their previously announced investment program. The value of this investment is approximately EUR 60 million and will be spread over the years 2024-2026. The investment will begin immediately and is expected to be completed in the second half of 2025. This renovation will improve the quality of the folding board and increase production efficiency, as well as enable the replacement of fossil fuels in cardboard production.
With this renovation, the production capacity of the factory will increase by about 10,000 tons, bringing the annual production capacity of Simpele folding carton to approximately 310,000 tons. This investment decision is part of a larger investment program announced on March 21 aimed at modernizing the Simpele cardboard factory, which will be implemented in stages over the next ten years.
Overall, this investment will not only enhance the quality and efficiency of production but also contribute to sustainability goals by enabling the reduction of fossil fuels in the production process. The company is committed to continuous improvement and innovation in their manufacturing processes to meet customer demands and environmental standards.
