Michigan, with a population of 10 million people, is the 10th largest state in the US. Current polls show that if the presidential election were held today, Michigan would choose Donald Trump over President Joe Biden by a narrow margin. However, if Trump were to run against Democratic Governor Gretchen Whitmer, he would be the definitive loser. This indicates that voters in Michigan are recognizing the economic rebound the state has experienced under Governor Whitmer compared to the Trump administration.

The outcome of Michigan’s potential vote is important as it is one of the seven swing states that will play a significant role in determining the outcome of the presidential election. These swing states include Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. The media often focuses on these states and portrays American unhappiness, but job market data tells a different story.

In Michigan, the number of manufacturing workers has increased by 5% since the end of 2020, which is almost as high as the national average. This growth in the job market suggests that the state is moving in a positive direction economically, which could benefit Biden in the election on Nov. 5th.
