Microsoft recently announced a delay in the launch of the AI-powered feature Recall, which is now expected to arrive “in the coming weeks” instead of the previously scheduled date of June 18. Recall was introduced by the company at the end of May as a new functionality integrated into Copilot+ PCs, employing AI to create a photographic memory system. This system allows users to search for past activities on their computer and easily locate content across various applications, documents, and websites, thanks to Recall’s local index storage.

However, concerns were raised by security experts regarding potential vulnerabilities in Recall that could compromise users’ private information. In response to these concerns, Microsoft stated that Recall would be made a clearer option and disabled by default. Users would also need to log in with Windows Hello to use it. Due to these issues, Microsoft decided to postpone the feature’s release.

The company plans to include Recall in the Windows Insider Program for feedback from the community before making it widely available for Copilot+ PCs. This adjustment in the release model is aimed at ensuring the functionality meets high quality and safety standards. Microsoft emphasized that security is its main priority, aligning Recall with its Secure Future Initiative and implementing encryption ‘Just in Time’ for enhanced protection.

By leveraging the experience of the Windows Insider community and prioritizing quality and safety, Microsoft aims to deliver a secure and reliable Recall feature to users. This delay in the launch demonstrates the company’s commitment to addressing any potential security concerns and refining the functionality before its official release.
