Nearly seven years ago, Incubus guitarist Mike Einziger and his wife, Ann Marie Simpson-Einziger, a fellow musician, made a revolutionary discovery in the realm of skincare. The two who also have a background in science, with Ann Marie majoring in biology and teaching physics and chemistry, and Mike being a Harvard graduate who has lectured at Stanford, found a naturally occurring molecule on the skin that sparked their interest.
Inspired by Ann Marie’s own struggles with hyperpigmentation and patches of lighter skin, they stumbled upon a powerful antioxidant ingredient called malassezin. This ingredient is 10 times more potent than Vitamin C, making it a key component in products from their brand, Mother Science, which sets them apart from others in the skincare market.
Mother Science was launched a year ago with the Molecular Hero Serum, and has since added the Retinol Synergist to its product lineup. Ann Marie and Mike visited Billboard News to discuss their groundbreaking discovery and how it is revolutionizing the skincare industry through their innovative products.
Throughout the development of their products and brand, Mike would often wake Ann Marie up in the middle of the night with new ideas or discoveries. Their shared curiosity and drive for innovation, whether in science or music – Mike in Incubus, and Ann Marie as a violinist collaborating with Hans Zimmer – has always been a driving force for them.
In addition to talking about the benefits of Mother Science products and how they have seen improvements in their own skin, Mike also shared that he is currently working on a new studio album with Incubus. To learn more about their journey and shop their products, watch the full interview above.
