Linebacker Mike Kolen, a key player for the Miami Dolphins during their back-to-back Super Bowl championship wins, passed away on April 3 at the age of 76. Kolen was a standout player at Auburn University before being drafted by the Dolphins in 1970.

During his time with the Dolphins, Kolen was a regular starter on defense and played a significant role in the team’s success. He was part of the Dolphins’ perfect 1972 season and helped secure their repeat Super Bowl victory in 1973. Kolen made memorable interceptions in key games, including against Terry Bradshaw and Johnny Unitas in AFC Championship games.

Despite a heartbreaking loss to the Raiders in the playoffs in 1974, Kolen remained a fierce competitor on the field until his retirement in 1977. Auburn University honored his legacy by naming an award for the season’s top tackler after Kolen, recognizing his contributions to the game of football. Kolen will always be remembered as a talented and tenacious player who made a lasting impact on the field.
