The president of Argentina, Javier Milei, recently visited Spain where he was welcomed by the president of the Madrid community, Isabel Díaz Ayuso. They met at the Puerta del Sol palace, headquarters of the Madrid regional government, where Ayuso honored Milei with the International Medal of the Community of Madrid. During his visit, Milei also received an award from the Juan de Mariana Institute for his defense of ideas of freedom.

In a statement, Ayuso mentioned that Argentina is now on the international map in a way that was not seen years ago, which could attract investment, trust, and hope. Milei used the opportunity to criticize the president of the Spanish government, Pedro Sánchez, from the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party, warning against the dangers of socialism.

However, Milei’s visit was met with criticism from the second vice-president of Spain and Minister of Labor, Yolanda Díaz. She accused Milei of promoting inequality and poverty in Argentina. This is not the first time Milei has visited Spain for political events, as he previously attended an event for Vox, a right-wing nationalist party.

The exchange of barbs between the governments of Argentina and Spain continues, with accusations from Sánchez’s ministers about Milei’s views and practices. Despite the controversy, Milei’s visit to Spain highlights the growing connections between the two countries in terms of politics and ideologies.
