Milwaukee Brewers secure former Cy Young winner Dallas Keuchel in trade while maintaining first place in standings.

The Milwaukee Brewers have acquired former AL Cy Young winner Dallas Keuchel from the Seattle Mariners due to injuries depleting their rotation depth. Keuchel, 36, was on a minor-league contract with Seattle and the trade was a cash deal. It is not yet clear if the Brewers will immediately add him to their major-league roster or send him to Triple-A.

The Brewers have faced a string of injuries to their starting pitchers, including losing top prospect Robert Gasser to season-ending elbow surgery earlier in the month. With five big-league starting pitchers on the injured list, Milwaukee’s rotation depth has been significantly impacted.

Despite the challenges with pitching injuries, the Brewers currently sit atop the NL Central with a record of 46-33. While they have struggled with injuries, their pitching staff has still managed to hold its own, allowing 4.00 runs per game, which is the eighth fewest in baseball. The bullpen has been a key contributor to their success, with a 3.29 ERA compared to the starters’ 4.20 ERA.

Keuchel has posted a 3.93 ERA in 13 Triple-A starts this season, performing well in the offense-heavy Pacific Coast League. In his MLB career, Keuchel has a 103-92 record and a 4.02 ERA. He was awarded the 2015 AL Cy Young award after an impressive season with the Houston Astros.
