Alex Mitchell, a defender who played 36 times for Lincoln City in League One last season, has been signed by Charlton Athletic for an undisclosed fee. The 22-year-old spent the previous season on loan at Lincoln City, where he made a total of 41 appearances in all competitions and scored one goal. Despite only having one first team appearance for Millwall, Mitchell has agreed to a three-year deal with Charlton and is the fourth new player to join the club this summer.

Charlton manager Nathan Jones expressed his excitement about bringing Mitchell to the team, citing his previous loan experience as a crucial factor in his development as a young player. Jones highlighted Mitchell’s defensive skills and described him as someone who will strengthen the team and make them more competitive and aggressive on the field.

Mitchell has also had loan spells at National League side Bromley, Scottish side St Johnstone, and Leyton Orient throughout his career. Jones emphasized Mitchell’s potential for growth, noting that at 22 years old, he has already amassed a significant number of games and still has room to reach his full potential. Jones praised Mitchell for his performance at Lincoln City last season, where he played a key role in the team’s strong finish in the second half of the season. Overall, Jones expressed his excitement about working with Mitchell and helping him continue his development in the upcoming season.
