Monifa Drayton Takes on Interim President Role at the Arts & Science Council in Charlotte

Monifa Drayton has been appointed as the interim president of the Arts & Science Council (ASC), a role she will take on as the board of directors conducts a national search for a permanent leader following the resignation of the current president, Krista Terrell. Terrell will be leaving the organization in December.

The Arts and Science Council is a nonprofit organization that advocates for equitable resources and opportunities for Charlotte’s art ecosystem. In a statement, Drayton expressed her excitement at joining the team and highlighted the importance of supporting diverse creatives and small businesses in a fast-growing city like Charlotte.

Drayton brings more than 20 years of executive and strategic leadership experience to the organization, having previously served as the principal consultant for the Drayton Leadership Group and with Atrium Health. She additionally serves as the chair of the Mecklenburg Alcoholic Beverage Control Board, providing her with experience in overseeing significant budgets and strategies for social impact.

ASC Board Chair Tony Perez expressed confidence in Drayton’s ability to navigate the transition period, citing her strong management background and passion for the arts as valuable assets for the organization as it continues to support the cultural sector.
