Today, on May 9, 2024, the U.S. Census Bureau unveiled the latest Business Formation Statistics (BFS) for April 2024. These statistics offer prompt and frequent insights into new business applications and establishments across the United States. The BFS is a conventional data tool produced by the Census Bureau in partnership with economists linked to the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, the University of Maryland, and the University of Notre Dame.
The complete BFS dataset, containing 12 series (four application and eight formation), is published monthly with data for the nation, regions, and states. This data set comprises both seasonally and nonseasonally adjusted data. Additionally, the U.S. Census Bureau issued the Monthly Puerto Rico Business Applications, an experimental data product showcasing four monthly business application categories for Puerto Rico. The same methodology for business applications as the existing monthly BFS is employed for this data product.
