A Moorhead couple is excitedly anticipating the arrival of their second child, highlighting the importance of inclusive care for LGBTQ+ families. Rachel and Nicole Nelson have been together for nearly a decade, married for four years. They met in school and moved to the metro area shortly after. With their first child, Atlas, now 17 months old, they embarked on a reproductive journey that involved multiple rounds of IUI and IVF. They credit Sanford Health for guiding them through the process and making them feel welcome as a same-sex couple.

Dr. Christina Broadwell from Sanford Health emphasizes the importance of finding information and support from local clinics and providers when starting a family, as everyone’s journey to parenthood is unique. Rachel and Nicole hope to inspire others who dream of building a family, regardless of their sexual orientation. Nicole, who is now pregnant with their second child after a successful IVF process, reflects on the challenges they faced during their fertility journey and the joy they now experience as they await the arrival of their new baby.

The Nelsons express gratitude for the support they received from Sanford Health and the confidence they had in their care team throughout their reproductive journey. As they prepare to welcome their second child in November, they are eager to expand their family and continue creating a safe and loving space for their children. They hope their story serves as a source of hope and encouragement for others facing similar challenges in their path to parenthood.
