Recently, a worried parent reached out after her son was admitted to Retreat Behavioral Health due to an overdose on fentanyl. Cynthia Craig shared the story of her 21-year-old son, who was asked to leave Retreat Behavioral Health in Palm Springs and take an Uber with another patient. Upon leaving, he left a message for his mother and then later texted her about the chaos that followed at the facility.
A few days after abruptly leaving Retreat, the worried mother received a call informing her that her son was now at a rehab facility in Miami. Despite the relocation, Cynthia is still concerned about her son being in an unfamiliar place and feeling like he can’t trust anyone. Unfortunately, her son had to leave Retreat Behavioral Health without any of his belongings, as they were reportedly being thrown out.
For the past two days, investigative reporters from WPTV have been trying to contact Florida’s Department of Children and Families for information on what happened to all the patients from Retreat Behavioral Health. The goal was to find out if all the patients were placed in other locations after the sudden closure of the facility. The response from DCF’s press secretary was that they are looking into the inquiry.
