In Bad Oeynhausen, a tragic incident occurred involving a Syrian refugee who has been living in Germany for many years. Philippos Tsanis (20) lost his life after allegedly being beaten to death by Mwafak A. (18). The mother of the victim is devastated by the loss of her son, whom she describes as her campaign for refugees. She had previously helped Ukrainian war refugees and even housed them in her home. In March 2022, she traveled to Poland to pick up refugees from Ukraine, driven by her deep empathy for the situation.
The mother’s actions were motivated by her family connections in Ukraine and her refusal to sit idly by while others suffered. Philippos, her son, also joined in the efforts to assist by packing relief supplies into a pickup truck. Tragically, his life was cut short in a brutal act of violence allegedly committed by Mwafak A., a Syrian with a history of police investigations.
Following the crime in Bad Oeynhausen’s spa gardens, where Philippos was killed, Mwafak A. was arrested by the police. A judge issued an arrest warrant, and the suspect is currently in a correctional facility for adolescents in Herford, North Rhine-Westphalia. The shocking incident has left the community in mourning and questioning how such a tragic event could have occurred.
