MSU Texas partners with SAFB to continue recreational sports series

In a new development of good news, Midwestern State University’s recreational sports division and Sheppard Air Force Base have continued their athletic competition for another year. The program aims to strengthen community ties between MSU and SAFB, with students getting the opportunity to compete against SAFB personnel and express gratitude for their service. All events have been hosted at MSU Texas, which boasts turf fields and a new basketball court.

One exciting aspect of the competition is the sight of 20 to 30 airmen in training buses cheering on their squadron. The program features a traveling trophy that moves between the campus and base, depending on the winners of each event each semester. In the latest season, MSU Texas emerged victorious in the flag football contest in October, while SAFB triumphed in basketball in March and softball in May. The events saw participation from around 60 students, showcasing the enthusiasm for the series.

The collaboration between MSU Texas Recreational Sports and Sheppard Air Force Base continues to foster camaraderie and friendly competition between the two institutions. The program provides a platform for students and SAFB personnel to come together in a spirit of sportsmanship and appreciation for each other’s roles within the community. With ongoing events and a tradition of honoring each other through athletic contests, the partnership between MSU Texas and SAFB showcases a commitment to building connections and mutual respect.
