Myrtle Beach’s temporary suspension of golf cart rental business license poses financial threat

Rent Me Superstore, a golf cart rental business in Myrtle Beach, is facing a 45-day ban from conducting business due to a suspension of its franchise license by the city. The company, which operates three stores in the city, learned about the possible suspension in May after falling behind on its business license and decal fee payments. Despite making all payments in full, the city moved forward with the suspension, which went into effect on June 11. The city has accepted late payments from the business in the past without taking further action.

During the suspension period, Rent Me Superstore stands to lose about $450,000 in revenues. The business has held annual franchise licenses for over seven years and currently does not have any outstanding payments to the city. The loss of income during the suspension could have significant consequences for the company, including losing employees, goodwill, marketing opportunities, and contracts with third parties, such as insurance companies or the landlord.

In response to the suspension, attorneys for Rent Me Superstore are asking a judge to intervene and lift the ban. They argue that the city is not harmed by lifting the suspension temporarily, and that allowing it to continue could potentially ruin the business. The company’s survival is threatened by each day of suspension, and lifting the ban is crucial to its continued operation and success.

The city of Myrtle Beach has declined to comment on the pending litigation. Meanwhile, Rent Me Superstore is looking to the court for relief from the suspension in order to protect its business and livelihood.
