Italian powerhouse Napoli is interested in Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta and has explored the possibility of acquiring him. Mateta, who had an impressive season with the Eagles, scoring 16 goals in 35 Premier League games, has caught the eye of Napoli’s new Sporting Director, Giovanni Manna. Manna is looking to bolster Napoli’s attacking options and has identified Romelu Lukaku as a key target, although the Belgian’s price tag may be a stumbling block.
In addition to Mateta and Lukaku, Napoli is also keeping an eye on Girona striker Artem Dovbyk, who was the top scorer in La Liga last season. However, Manna is aware that there is stiff competition for Dovbyk’s signature and is hesitant to get into a bidding war. Despite this, Napoli is considering making a move for the Ukrainian forward as they look to strengthen their squad.
Reports suggest that Napoli had previously considered signing Mateta in 2022 but ultimately opted for Victor Osimhen. However, the French striker is reportedly open to a move to Serie A and Crystal Palace values him at around €30M. With Napoli looking to add firepower to their attack, Mateta could be a potential target for the Serie A club as they continue to search for reinforcements in the transfer market.
