NASA Science: Driving South on Sols 1371-1372

Today’s two-sol plan for the Mars rover includes conducting observations of the Murray formation using the ChemCam and Mastcam instruments to analyze variations in texture and chemistry. Additionally, a small Mastcam mosaic will be created to document nearby cross-stratification and nodules, and a MAHLI mosaic of the target “Berg Aukas” will be captured before the rover drives away. Following the drive, the standard post-drive imaging will be obtained for context and targeting purposes.

On the second sol, a small untargeted science block has been scheduled, which will include a ChemCam autonomously selected target and a Mastcam observation to monitor the opacity of the atmosphere. These observations and data collection activities are part of the rover’s ongoing mission to study the Martian environment and geology.
