Nashville local shatters world record at U.S. Olympic Swimming trials

A Nashville native, 21-year-old Gretchen Walsh, broke a world record at the U.S. Olympic Swimming trials on Saturday. She now holds the record for swimming the fastest women’s 100-meter butterfly in the world, breaking the previous record by 30 milliseconds. Walsh posted a time of 55.18 seconds in a semi-final heat at the U.S. Olympic Swim trials in Indianapolis, de-throning a Swedish swimmer from the World Record title. She is a Harpeth Hall graduate, and her school posted about her win, expressing how proud they are of her. Even Olympic great Michael Phelps took notice of her record and shared the win on his Instagram story. Walsh currently swims for the University of Virginia swim team and still has more races to compete in to try and secure her spot on the Olympics team.

In another story, the school is celebrating a beloved teacher, Ms. McMurray, who is living with brain cancer. Teachers hold a special place in our hearts, leaving a lasting impact on our lives. Despite her illness, Ms. McMurray has poured so much love and care into her students, who are now returning that love when she needs it most. The heartwarming story by Forrest Sanders highlights the bond between teacher and students, reminding us of the impact teachers can have on our lives. Ms. McMurray’s bravery and strength in the face of adversity are truly inspiring, and her students are rallying around her to show their support and appreciation for all she has done for them.
