National World, a British multi-media company, has acquired Athletics Weekly Limited in a strategic move as the brand heads into an Olympic summer focused on track and field athletics. Previously owned by 21six Investments Limited, Athletics Weekly is known as the leading global content platform for athletics, covering everything from grassroots to elite professional levels.

AW publishes content online, on social media platforms, in newsletters, and in a monthly print magazine. The acquisition by National World expands their sports coverage beyond football and brings in respected writers and commentators from the world of athletics to their team. Mark Hollinshead, the Group’s Chief Operating Officer, expressed excitement about the acquisition, stating that it aligns with their strategy to focus on unique specialist content with potential for higher-yielding advertising and multimedia brand partnerships.

Wendy Sly, an Olympic medallist, who is the publisher of Athletics Weekly, will now be part of National World’s sports coverage team. The acquisition also opens up opportunities to expand the brand into new media channels such as video, events, and podcasts. As the Paris Olympics approach and athletics takes the spotlight as the number one Olympic sport, National World looks forward to recording a successful summer of sports through the lens of Athletics Weekly.
