NBA Legend Chet Walker, Five-Time All-Star and 1967 Champion with 76ers, Passes Away

Chet Walker, a seven-time All-Star forward known for his time with the Philadelphia 76ers and Chicago Bulls, has passed away at the age of 84. The news was confirmed by the National Basketball Players Association, with condolences pouring in from various organizations on social media. Walker was honored as part of Chicago’s Ring of Honor in January and is remembered as a true icon of the Bulls franchise.

Nicknamed “The Jet,” Walker had a successful career in the NBA, averaging 18.2 points and 7.1 rebounds over 13 seasons. He played a key role on teams that made the playoffs each year he was in the league and was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 2012. Walker, originally from Mississippi, played college basketball at Bradley University where he was a two-time All-American and helped the team win the 1960 NIT championship.

Selected by Syracuse in the 1962 NBA draft, Walker spent the majority of his career with the 76ers before being traded to the Bulls in 1969. He continued to excel with Chicago, making the All-Star team four more times and averaging 20.6 points per game over six seasons. While playing alongside Bob Love, the duo gave the Bulls a strong scoring presence but were unable to make it to the NBA Finals together.

Despite not winning a championship with the Bulls, Walker’s impact on both Philadelphia and Chicago basketball was significant. He will be remembered for his skill, dedication, and lasting contributions to the game of basketball.
