NBC Chicago Reports Minneapolis Is Among the Happiest Cities in the World in Latest Ranking

One of the happiest cities in the world is located in the Midwest and has been recognized as the only city in the United States to achieve this status. Minneapolis, Minnesota has been named as the happiest city in the U.S. and among the happiest in the world, according to the Institute for Quality of Life which creates the “Happy City Index” annually.

The ranking is based on various indicators that assess the quality of life and overall happiness for residents. Cities are evaluated on 24 areas of activity within categories such as citizens, governance, environment, economy, and mobility. Minneapolis was the sole U.S. city to rank in the gold status category, achieving a high rank of 17 among 37 total cities.

Aarhus, Denmark was ranked as the top city in the world. Minneapolis scored particularly well in the citizens and economy categories, contributing to its gold status. Several other U.S. cities were listed in the silver and bronze categories, including Boston, Baltimore, Washington, San Francisco, Salt Lake City, Madison, Pittsburgh, Rochester, and Portland.

Madison, Wisconsin has also received recognition in several happiness rankings in the past, solidifying its reputation as a city with high levels of happiness and quality of life.
