Isabel Gómez Hernández’s South End home welcomes visitors with pristine white walls adorned with family photographs, prominently featuring her daughter Yéssica. Yéssica tragically passed away in a motorcycle accident in 2022 at the age of 22. Gómez Hernández reflects on their similarities, such as a shared love of colors and a drive for progress. Yéssica had always dreamed of becoming a truck driver, a passion that inspired her mother to start her own school transportation company, named Yessica Coreas School Transportation in honor of her daughter.

Gómez Hernández began her business journey by obtaining a transportation license and purchasing a used minivan with her savings. What initially started as driving her daughter Blanca to school has grown into a business with 14 clients, primarily families who live too close to schools for public bus transportation but too far to walk. As her business expands, she contemplates purchasing another vehicle and hiring a driver to meet the growing demand for student transportation in the area.

Recognizing the need for safe and reliable transport for students, Gómez Hernández’s company has become a valuable resource for families in the community. She continues to be inspired by her daughter’s memory and determination, driving her entrepreneurial spirit and dedication to providing essential services to the community.
