New Copilot+ PC AI Enhances Video Call Experience, but Falls Short in Creative Tasks

The new Copilot+ PC teams have introduced a new way of working with generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools, enhancing productivity and user experience overall. However, they have not yet shown precise responses in more creative tasks. The company launched these PCs in May as a means to help users maximize the capabilities of their Surface devices, specifically the Surface Laptop and Surface Pro models.

The Surface Laptop comes in two sizes, 13.8 and 15 inches, powered by Snapdragon X Elite chips. The screens feature PixelSense Flow technology, Corning Gorilla Glass, and high resolutions (2496 x 1664) with vibrant color profiles. The battery life varies based on screen size, with up to 22 hours of video playback on the larger model.

Similarly, the Surface Pro models, which have 13-inch screens, come in variations powered by Snapdragon X Plus and Snapdragon X Elite chips. They boast high resolutions, Corning Gorilla Glass 5, and up to 14 hours of video playback battery life. Both devices run on Windows 11 Home and feature Windows Hello facial authentication.

These PCs are equipped with Qualcomm Adreno GPUs and Hexagon NPUs, capable of performing 45 billion operations per second. The NPUs are designed for AI tasks, optimizing speed and power efficiency, leading to extended battery life. The Copilot+ PCs target various consumers, offering features like Recall, CoCreator, and Windows Studio Effects to enhance daily tasks.

The CoCreator tool integrates AI into creative tasks, such as designing sketches or recipes, but its accuracy is somewhat limited in complex scenarios. Windows Studio Effects improve video call features, focusing on lighting and background effects to enhance communication experiences. Live Captions and translations offer accessibility and convenience during video calls.

While the Copilot+ PC’s AI capabilities have shown promise in simplifying daily tasks and enhancing communication, their accuracy and adaptability in more complex scenarios are still areas for improvement. The integration of AI into work processes opens up possibilities for greater efficiency and creativity, but it requires further development to reach its full potential.
