The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) is closing down on July 1, and two new agencies will be taking its place. The Department of Public Health (DPH) will oversee DHEC’s public health and healthcare quality programs, while the Department of Environmental Services (DES) will oversee air quality, coastal management, and land and waste management.
Acting DPH Director Dr. Edward Simmer will be holding a press conference on Monday morning to address the public about the changes. The conference will officially announce the launch of the Department of Public Health, explain the implications of the DHEC split, and provide information about what South Carolinians need to know.
The press conference will be held at 9 a.m. at the Mills-Jarret Building at 2100 Bull Street and will be available for livestreaming. To stay informed about important updates like this, subscribe to our email newsletter and download our apps.
