New Hepatitis C Treatment Program Launched by the Health Department – The Morning Sun

The Central Michigan District Health Department has recently introduced a hepatitis C treatment program to better serve the mid-Michigan area. This program offers comprehensive care, including medication, monitoring, and support services, to help individuals effectively manage their condition. Connie Lance, the community health supervisor at CMDHD, emphasizes the importance of this program in addressing the increasing burden of hepatitis C in Michigan.

Hepatitis C is a liver infection caused by the hepatitis C virus (HCV) and can result in serious health complications if left untreated, such as liver damage, cirrhosis, and liver cancer. Lance stresses that hepatitis C is curable and early detection and treatment can prevent these complications. Healthcare providers can refer patients, and individuals can also self-refer for treatment through the forms available on the CMDHD website.

For individuals without insurance, CMDHD has resources to assist with the cost of treatment, as the program bills insurance for services. Additionally, CMDHD offers testing for hepatitis C for those who are unsure of their status.
