The Public Safety Committee met in San Antonio today to discuss updates on the city’s mental health outreach efforts. The initiative, known as S-A CORE, has been making significant progress in better serving individuals experiencing a mental health crisis. One positive outcome has been a decrease in arrests related to mental health issues.
During the presentation, a map was shown highlighting areas in the city with the highest frequency of mental health crisis calls. Since its start in January, S-A CORE has established three teams to cover the city more comprehensively. Starting next month, the program will be available 24/7 to provide timely responses to mental health crises. This expansion will help ensure that individuals in need receive the support they require when facing a mental health emergency.
