Joplin’s future science center now has a name, thanks to the Creative Learning Alliance. The organization launched the title, Schroeder Family Exploreum, at an unveiling ceremony Friday morning. The new science center will be housed in the old Joplin Library building.

Initially, there were 64 potential names for the science center, which were narrowed down to three finalists. The nonprofit’s board of directors made the final decision to name the center the Schroeder Family Exploreum after receiving a one-million dollar donation from local developer Rick Schroeder.

Audie Dennis, the Creative Learning Alliance Board President, expressed gratitude for the support of the Schroeder family and the community. The organization has set a fundraising goal of $6.5 million, with $1.7 million pledged thus far. The Schroeder Family Exploreum is scheduled to open in 2025.
