New organization proposes bringing USL team to Buffalo

Buffalo Pro Soccer, a newly formed group led by Western New York native Peter Marlette Jr., is planning to bring a United Soccer League Championship team to Buffalo by 2026. Marlette, the president of the organization, has announced an exclusive partnership with USL to make this vision a reality in Western New York. He will be working with club owners, elected officials, business partners, community leaders, and more to bring a professional soccer club to Buffalo.

Marlette expressed his belief that Buffalo, known for its passion for sports, should have its own professional soccer club to join the growing soccer movement in the United States. He is committed to building a winning team that represents the hard work, resilience, innovation, and pride of the community. Marlette looks forward to collaborating with everyone who believes in Buffalo to write a new chapter in the city’s vibrant civic and sports history.

Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown commended Peter Marlette and Buffalo Pro Soccer for their plans to bring professional soccer to the city, adding to Buffalo’s reputation as a great sports city. Marlette, a Buffalo native who has experience playing and managing soccer teams, is determined to bring this project to fruition.

The USL Championship currently features 24 men’s professional teams playing a 34-game regular season from March to October. As the only league sanctioned by U.S. Soccer’s Division II, USL Championship teams have a strong fan base, with an average of nearly 6,000 fans per game and some teams drawing more than 10,000 spectators regularly. Buffalo Pro Soccer aims to become a part of this thriving soccer league and bring professional soccer to Buffalo in the near future.
