On Thursday, April 6, 2024, a significant moment unfolded within the School of Public Health as they celebrated the opening of their new home in the recently renovated Edna S. Brigham Building. The occasion was met with joy and pride as a ribbon cutting ceremony took place, with opening remarks from University leadership.
President Sandoval spoke warmly about the School’s impact in the community during the ceremony. He highlighted the School’s role in preparing students to take on leadership roles in the future of public health for Nevada and beyond. Students at the School impact policy, implement systemic change, develop and evaluate health programs, provide accessible wide-scale services, and conduct innovative research.
Dean Akpinar-Elci has made significant progress in her role since assuming it in Fall 2021. During her address at the ceremony, she reflected on the journey that led to this day and expressed her gratitude for the collaborative effort that brought the shared vision to life.
