A new study reveals that Gen Z is more likely to experience negative emotions such as stress, anxiety, and loneliness compared to older generations. The study, conducted by Gallup and the Walton Family Foundation, surveyed over 3,000 individuals aged 12 to 26 in April and May of this year. The results showed that less than half (47%) of Gen Z Americans are thriving in life, which is the lowest percentage compared to any other generation. In terms of mental health, only 15% of Gen Z members between the ages of 18 and 26 reported feeling good, compared to 52% of millennials in the same age group a decade ago. The decline in mental health over the past decade may be a contributing factor. However, despite these challenges, Gen Z still maintains a sense of optimism, with over three-quarters believing they have a great future ahead of them. The study also highlighted other concerns, such as the affordability of higher education and gun violence in schools. This study is the first of its kind for this nationally representative group, and researchers plan to continue gathering data to inform policy makers in the future.
