In a Big South Conference spring tennis meet at New Ulm High School, New Ulm defeated Fairmont 6-1 on Monday. Fairmont’s No. 1 doubles team of Carter Quist and Dominick Lund-May secured the lone win for the Cardinals by defeating Joey Kotten and Daniel Brownfield with a score of 7-6 (12-10), 6-4.
On the singles side, Mav Johnson beat Anthony Stegge 6-0, 6-3 at No. 1 singles, while Charlie Weidman defeated Tyler Siama 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles. Gideon Heins won against Sebastian Castro 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles, and Ian Schotzko took down Wylee Fredericksen 6-0, 6-3. Aaron Black and Ethan Neet won their No. 2 doubles match against Oliver Thedens and Simoné Castro 6-0, 6-1, while Isaac Dittmer and Eli Dorschner defeated Lilly Ortega and Leon Yang 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 doubles.
In prep baseball action on Saturday, Martin County West secured a 2-1 victory over Heron Lake-Okabena with Cam Meyer’s walk-off two-run home run in the seventh inning. Lucas Larson pitched a solid game, earning the win for MCW with nine strikeouts in seven innings. MCW will play Madelia in a Valley Conference game at home on Thursday.
