New Water-Cleansing Technology Showcased at Swampscott Beaches

A demonstration of clean-water technology took place at Swampscott Town Hall with officials from both Swampscott and Lynn present. The experiment was organized by Green Water Solutions, International Marketing Management Inc., and Save the Harbor/Save the Bay. Green Water President and Chief Operating Officer, Chas Antinone, explained the advanced oxidation process that was being used, which involves creating ozone to dissolve into the water and cleanse it.

The process involves creating oxygen to produce ozone, which is dissolved into the water. The water is then pumped out through patented nozzles to create nanobubbles. Antinone explained that the ozone in the nanobubbles acts as a cleansing agent that breaks down bacterial molecules. The procedure has been studied and developed at institutions such as Ohio State University, the University of Florida, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

The entire process took approximately 20 minutes to complete using a water sample from a storm drain on Banks Road. After requests to test the procedure on water samples from King’s Beach and Stacey’s Brook area, the team agreed to expand their testing. Officials and community members present at the demonstration expressed their support for finding a solution to address bacterial contamination in the water.

Town Administrator Sean Fitzgerald emphasized the importance of finding a long-term solution such as the installation of an outfall pipe to ensure the safety and well-being of the region’s beaches. While the demonstration showed promising results, Fitzgerald stressed the need for a permanent solution to protect the community. Despite the positive feedback from the demonstration, it was clear that a comprehensive approach is necessary to address the ongoing water quality issues in the area.
