Everton earned a crucial point in their battle to avoid relegation despite being outplayed for much of the match against Newcastle. The game started with Alexander Isak putting Newcastle ahead in the 15th minute, but they failed to consolidate their lead. Jordan Pickford, the ex-Sunderland goalkeeper, made key saves to prevent Newcastle from extending their advantage.

However, VAR played a significant role in the game, disallowing a goal from Dan Burn for being offside and awarding Everton a late penalty after a foul by Paul Dummett on Ashley Young. Dominic Calvert-Lewin successfully converted the penalty, scoring his first goal since October and ending a 23-game goal drought.

Despite the draw, Everton extended their winless streak in the Premier League to 13 games, setting a new club record. Manager Sean Dyche expressed hope that Calvert-Lewin’s goal would be the first of many as Everton desperately need more goals to climb out of the relegation battle.
