Oliver Greaves spent two years in the Sheffield United academy from 2018-2020 before signing with Newport County. The 24-year-old striker’s two-year contract with Newport County is pending approval from the Football League and international clearance. Greaves left Sheffield United at the age of 20 due to injury and later took a break from professional football after a loan spell at Barrow.

After restarting his career, Greaves played for Dover Athletic, Buxton in the National League, and Spanish club CD Almunecar City. Last season, he scored 24 goals in 48 appearances for Mickleover in the Southern League Northern Premier Division. Greaves expressed his excitement about joining Newport County, stating that he was eager to play in front of the fans and had heard only good things about the club.

Greaves is Newport County’s fifth signing as chairman Huw Jenkins continues to search for a new head coach following the departure of manager Graham Coughlan. This week, Newport County also signed defenders Ciaran Brennan, Anthony Glennon, and Joe Thomas, as well as midfielder Kai Whitmore, all on two-year contracts.
