The heat in Southern California is reaching unbearable levels, but for weather enthusiasts, there may be a silver lining. Death Valley is on track to potentially break its own record for the hottest temperature ever recorded on Earth.

The current record stands at 130 degrees, which was set in Death Valley in August 2020 and July 2021. According to Scientific American, there is a possibility that this temperature could be reached again on Monday or Tuesday, with probabilities ranging from 20 to 25%.

For perspective, a temperature of 131 degrees can cook a sirloin or ribeye steak to medium-rare in just two hours, as noted by the Daily Beast. While temperatures of 134 and 136 degrees have been recorded, there have been questions about the accuracy of the instruments used for those readings, making the official measurement of 130 degrees the widely accepted record.

If you were considering visiting Death Valley during this potentially record-breaking heat wave, it is strongly advised against. The conditions will be so extreme that rescue helicopters will not be able to fly, as reported by the Daily Beast. This serves as a reminder of the dangers posed by such extreme temperatures.
