The NMBS has issued a warning about fraudulent messages appearing on social media that aim to deceive people into providing personal information. Scammers are circulating messages claiming that the Belgian railways are offering a gift card for just two euros to anyone who completes a questionnaire. This card supposedly allows the holder to travel for free throughout Belgium for a year. However, these reports are false and are an attempt to obtain banking information from unsuspecting victims.
The NMBS advises travelers to ignore these messages and only rely on communication through official channels. They also caution against sharing personal information or bank details with such offers. The spokesperson for the railway company, Bart Crols, suggests being cautious if the communication is unexpected, irrelevant, or if the offer seems too good to be true. Additionally, NMBS will never ask for personal information on an insecure webpage.
Despite the NMBS filing complaints with the authorities and social media platforms, the misleading messages continue to circulate. The railway company urges travelers to be vigilant and not to fall for these scams. It is important to be aware of potential fraud attempts and to verify information from official sources.
