Nominees for Large School Coach of the Year at the 2024 Nexstar Sports Awards

The fifth annual Nexstar Sports Awards and Hall of Fame banquet is scheduled for Thursday, July 11, 2024, at D.L. Ligon Coliseum on the campus of MSU Texas. During the event, one of three Texoma coaches of an athletic program at a Class 4A or 5A school will be named the Large School Coach of the Year, one of 18 honors being awarded in 2024. The nominees for the 2024 Large School Coach of the Year are Marc Bindel, Jeremy Crouch, and Carl Wiersema.

Marc Bindel, coach of the Rider Raiders Football team, led the team to their first district title in 16 years in the 2024 season. He guided the team to another successful season with over 10 wins and a consistent scoring average of 21 points over opponents. Bindel, adopting the motto of “Last One, Best One,” ended Rider High School’s tenure with a tenth consecutive playoff appearance.

Jeremy Crouch, coach of the Rider Raiders Baseball team, achieved a career-high of 26 wins in 2024, the most in a single season for Rider baseball since 2013. He surpassed 200 career wins as a head coach and is currently third all-time in Rider Raiders history. Crouch helped lead the team to the UIL Class 5A Regional Quarterfinals for the first time since 2016.

Carl Wiersema, coach of the Rider Raiders Girl’s Soccer team, completed his 30th season leading the Lady Raiders in 2024. His team secured a record of 20-2-4 and earned their fifth district championship in the last six years. They made it to the UIL Class 5A Regional Final for the second consecutive season, with a 14-game winning streak that ended just short of a UIL State Tournament appearance.
