Nonprofit Sports Organization Providing Opportunities for All Children

An organization in the Triad region of North Carolina is seeking assistance from the community. Beyond Sports NC is dedicated to ensuring that all children in the area have equal access to sports equipment. Mike Kennedy, co-founder of Beyond Sports NC, explained that the cost of sports equipment and transportation can be prohibitive for many families. Even schools struggle to provide all the necessary athletic equipment due to funding limitations.

To address this issue, Beyond Sports NC is working to stock its warehouse with new and gently used sports equipment, clothing, and shoes. They are seeking donations of all types of sports gear commonly used at the middle school or elementary school level, including items for sports like soccer, basketball, football, and shoes. Kennedy highlighted the rising cost of shoes, which quickly become outgrown by children and can strain family budgets when it comes to providing proper footwear for sports.

The expenses associated with sports can be significant, including costs for registration, equipment, camps, and travel. Playgroundequipment.com compiled data showing that playing basketball costs an average of $427, while the price for participating in lacrosse can reach $1,000. Beyond Sports NC aims to alleviate some of these financial burdens by accepting donations of sports gear that is in good condition or brand new. With fall sports on the horizon, they are particularly interested in items for sports like soccer, field hockey, and football.

All donations collected by Beyond Sports NC will be distributed to Title I schools throughout the Triad area. By providing access to quality sports equipment, the organization hopes to ensure that all children have the opportunity to participate in sports regardless of their financial circumstances.
