The CAA has announced its women’s basketball weekly awards following the second week of the 2023-24 season. North Carolina A&T redshirt sophomore center Chaniya Clark was named CAA Player of the Week, and Drexel freshman guard Laine McGurk earned CAA Rookie of the Week honors.
Chaniya Clark, North Carolina A&T R-Sophomore | C | Ft. Myers, Fla. / Ft. Myers HS Clark led North Carolina A&T to a 2-0 week, including its first Power Five win since 2019, with 13.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per game. Against Wake Forest, Clark added 10 points and seven rebounds, helping the Aggies to a 56-51 road victory. Clark made the play of the game, converting an and-one opportunity with 54 seconds remaining to give A&T a four-point lead and secure the ACC victory for the Aggies. On Sunday, she followed the performance with her first double-double this season, leading A&T to a 56-47 win over Liberty with 17 points and 10 rebounds. North Carolina A&T has strung together three straight wins, with Clark reaching double figures in all three contests.
Laine McGurk, Drexel Freshman | G | West Chester, Pa. / West Chester Rustin McGurk averaged 15.0 points and 4.0 rebounds per game, helping Drexel to a 1-1 week against city rivals. On Wednesday, the freshman guard poured in a team-high 20 points on 9-of-12 shooting while adding six rebounds in 19 minutes off the bench. The effort led Drexel to a 71-46 victory over La Salle. On Sunday, McGurk contributed 10 points for her third straight game in double figures despite a setback to Saint Joseph’s.
