Numbness in the limbs can be caused by various conditions such as spinal disc herniation, spinal stenosis, osteoarthritis, stroke, radiculopathy, and atherosclerosis. This condition commonly affects the hands and feet, regardless of age, impacting daily life. Initially, symptoms may be mild, with sensations like numbness, tingling, and cramps. Over time, the numbness and pain can worsen, spreading through the arms, legs, and other parts of the body.

MSc. Dr. Pham Thi Xuan Thu from the Orthopedic Trauma Center at Tam Anh General Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City explains that numbness in hands and feet can be caused by various diseases such as herniated discs, spinal stenosis, degenerative spine conditions, carpal tunnel syndrome, arthritis, stroke, multiple sclerosis, and other factors like atherosclerosis, diabetes, and thyroid disorders.

Apart from medical conditions, improper posture, accidents, stress, fatigue, and lack of exercise can also contribute to numbness in the limbs. Dr. Thu emphasizes the importance of not ignoring hand and foot numbness, as it can lead to prolonged discomfort, loss of function, and other serious complications. Seeking medical attention if symptoms persist for more than 6 weeks is advised, as well as monitoring and addressing mechanical factors if numbness occurs for shorter periods.
